Cbt Anxiety

Psychologists!-cbt&social Anxiety help?

I’m currently helping a cousin of mine who has SA, through video messenger
no matter what I say he just wont see a doctor , maybe embarassment shame I dunno…but i jus wanna help out, he’s on the other side of the world…

What is cognitive behavioural therapy? NLP and EFT? it possible to do these free online? can I help him through it?

he does seem to be a bit confident talking, but still quiet! he wants to go abroad on a backpacking thing…would that help he’s low self esteem?
is psychological help from an expert the only soloution or is there diy help available and affective
and in UK how long do patients go for CBT seeing psychologist or counselor? and are they free for UK citizens?

I won’t argue that CBT works except to say that your country’s Health agency National Institute for Clinical Excellence, lists it as one of the three most important treatments for anxiety, the others being medication (usually an SSRI), and reading a book that has been shown to be effective in trials with patients. If you don’t trust the NICE, you can look through the studies of CBT that have been done over the past few decades. You can google “NICE anxiety” and read their report, which rates CBT as a bit better than medicine, although the two can be combined.

The Handbook of Self Help Therapies, which reviews studies of books and programs, mentions two books that have been shown to be effective in treating social anxiety, Dying of Embarrassment by Markway and A Guide to Rational Living by Ellis. I should say that results were not as good with severe anxiety. There is a free, anonymous online cognitive therapy program that might help. It’s called MoodGYM. Other books worth mentioning: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Carnegie, the most popular self help book of all time, and Feeling Good Handbook or When Panic Attacks by Burns, highly recommended by professionals.

If your cousin is not in dire need of help at this time, maybe self help would best choice, at least as a starting point. One good thing about self help is that is explains what therapy is about.

CBT for Worry and Generalised Anxiety Disorder

CBT for Worry and Generalised Anxiety Disorder

$41

This practical introduction helps trainees use cognitive behavioural therapy to assess and treat generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), one of the most commonly presented client issues. Taking the reader step-by-step through each stage of CBT with anxiety and worry, the authors illustrate the whole range of different treatment techniques whilst keeping the book accessible and concise. Tailored to current High and Low Intensity (IAPT) training, it covers self-help literature as well as traditional one-to-one therapy. The book: – contains illustrative case material, balancing an evidence-based approach with awareness of the realities of today’s practice – alerts trainees to the potential complicating factors and the co-existence of other anxiety or mood disorders alongside GAD – addresses cross-cutting professional themes, such as working with morbidity and the pressures of working within NHS settings. Bridging the gap between theory and practice, this book is essential reading for all CBT trainees on IAPT programmes, as well as trainees on postgraduate counselling, psychotherapy and clinical psychology courses. Qualified therapists who require an update in this area will also find this a useful resource.

Computerised CBT

Computerised CBT

$65.33

Computerised Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CCBT) delivers cognitive behavioral techniques to a computeruser to increase successful coping strategies and improve mental wellbeing. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (2006) describes CCBT as a generic term for delivering CBT via an interactive computer interface delivered by a personal computer, internet or interactive voice response system. Official data from the World Health Organisation shows us that annually in the UK 7.7 of the population suffer from depression and 10 from anxiety. In the United States 9.5 of the population annually suffer from depression with 18.1 of the population suffering from anxiety. However, both depression and anxiety can be successfully treated in many cases, and with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy proving to be as effective as medication (Watkins Williams, 1998) and a popular choice for sufferers any provision of CBT on a wider basis is desirable. Hence, computerised CBT programmes may offer a unique opportunity to dramatically improve the lives of millions of people.
