Does green tea w/ ginseng help with anxiety?

I’m on anti depressants for derealization anxiety, klonopin,citalopram,and metoprolol. I also take fish oil pills 3 times a day and a supplement once a day called good day supplements. My meds work for the most part. Ive been drinking caffeine a lot over the past few wks which doesnt help my anxiety any. Does green tea with ginseng help with anxiety?

I have seen some evidence that ginseng may help anxiety, but green tea contains caffeine which generally makes anxiety worse. I would recommend cutting back your caffeine.

Also, how long have you been on klonopin? Is that something you take regularly, or only in isolated incidents when you experience severe anxiety? That medication is highly effective at preventing anxiety in the short-term, but it causes a strong tolerance / addiction effect if used regularly. It is best to avoid taking in the long-term. There is no evidence that it helps anxiety in the long-term and there’s some evidence that it actually makes things worse.

I also noticed you are taking metoprolol. Is that for high blood pressure? You may want to look at hibiscus tea: http://ratetea.net/style/hibiscus/148/ — It has a similar effect. If you can deal with the fact that it is so sour, you might find it is safer and has fewer side-effects (besides the acidity/sourness).

Also, do you exercise regularly? This can help your anxiety, depression, and high blood pressure. It could reduce your need for all three medications.

Fish oil is very good for you, but you know what is probably better? Eating whole fish! Try it out, really. Fish is good for you. If you want to be lazy, buy sardines, they are cheap and are some of the healthiest fish there are.
