stemetil Tablets for anxiety?
I’ve been having ‘fight or flight’ feelings on my weekend college course, and I’m also experiencing a new event this Sunday too – I feel anxious about this and have found dome stemetil Tablets in the medicine cupboard which were prescribed for me a few months ago. I only take vits etc so should I give ut a go? Has anyone else had them? I don’t want to get addicted, just some short term relief?
Self medication,which is basically what this would amount to is seldom a good idea. In fact if you asked an up to date GP about taking even your ‘vits etc.’ he would probably advise that this is at best pointless and in some cases unnecessary excess vitamins are toxic!
Prochlorperazine was once used as a ‘minor tranquilliser’. (That is a medical term.) Though it does still hold this licence it is rarely used for this,though it is an effective and commonly prescribed anti-emetic. It was used more in the anti-psychotic range of medication at a low level.
In general medication is now viewed as a less desirable option when managing anxiety as it tends to cover up rather than cure. The best option in terms of treatment is CBT,cognitive behavioural therapy, with a 70% cure rate. The most effective short term symptom relief is probably obtained from SSRIs such as Prozac. Ideally these should be used only while waiting for therapy.
