Suffering with anxiety disorder, is it okay to share with people?
Recently, I have come to terms with the help of a therapist that I have suffered with an anxiety disorder for most of my life. Although parts of this feel like a Relief, it is also a big pill to swallow. It is nice to know it has a name because I suffer a lot. However, I also worry if people wouldn’t be my friend, or they would think less of me to know I have anxiety. Although I am not sure if I consider anxiety a mental illness, there still is a stigma attached to it. My inclination is to be open about it with people, but I am wondering if those of you who are reading this think it is better if I remain silent about my anxiety, or if it is better to tell people in hopes of breaking the stigma and educating people about what an anxiety disorder is and isn’t? I am afraid people will equate it with being weak and crazy.
Be open and honest with everyone if they are true friends they will stick by you and support you in every way and if not they are not worth your time. There are a lot of people in your shoes including myself and like you i was scared at first to tell anyone but i found all of my great friends were and are still there for me when i really need them. If you are not sure how to talk about your condition ask your therapist to help you out. Good luck with everything
